Greetings to my JB gals, and welcome to the launch of our monthly newsletter. If you are followers of our Instagrams (and I hope you are!) you might have noticed the new hashtag #brickandmartyr as we struggle to complete two stores at the same time on opposite sides of the country. Be careful for what you wish for, indeed.
Our commitment to opening brick and mortar storefronts has brought with it a host of challenges, but it also puts us where we want to be: at the forefront of the “hi-touch not hi-tech” insurgency—in house we call it the Slow Boob Movement. 😉 We thank every single one of you for schlepping over, bringing your friends and family year after year, and enabling this growth. Once we got a bad Yelp review (Oy!) that called us “just a Mom and Pop store.” I looked over at Pop, and asked, “How is that a bad thing?” Soon we will be five Mom & Pop stores, and we will strive to maintain the warmth and integrity that you can only have in a family-run, privately held business.
Speaking of proud Mom and Pop (and kids and spouses) lingerie companies, I have just returned from Paris, where in addition to our selecting our FW20 collections, we were delighted to be guests of the Van de Velde family (makers of PrimaDonna, Marie Jo, and Andres Sarda) at their 100-year anniversary celebration of creating fashionable and supportive lingerie for full-cup women. Liesbeth Van de Velde, granddaughter of the founders, had just toured our Westside store and it was an honor to meet her brother, daughter, aunts, and uncles who still helm the business. It was a fabulous evening topped off with a runway show featuring a century of lingerie from their archives joyfully modeled by their female plant and office workers!
Beginning next month, we are pleased to announce that Jenette Bras will be able to offer health care benefits to our California employees. This one’s a dream for many business owners, and we’re so excited to be able to offer it.
Our long-awaited Burbank store is in the home-stretch and we are aiming for February 20th, but call over first to make sure. The Atlanta store in Decatur has just started its build-out and is gearing up for a March 1st opening. Again, Georgia gals – call over to check.
